My client is a University in SE london and are looking for someone who can walk in and start. You will supervise, organise, monitor, audit and control the direct labour engineering maintenance staff and sub-contracted engineering maintenance staff at the University Campus. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring standards, maintaining staff performance, liaising with and directing a wide range of contractors working on site. S/he will also liaise with and establish good working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders on site to ensure efficient, effective and customer oriented services are at all times maintained

Key Responibilities:-

 Manage the engineering/maintenance team and ensure a high quality of service delivery at all times.

Take responsibility for the effective management of all maintenance and repair aspects of the Engineering/maintenance service using either the multi-disciplined direct labour team or contractors as appropriate.

Receive, prioritize and issue requisitions for breakdown and repair works and monitor progress to completion using appropriate departmental IT software as necessary.

Organise planned maintenance activities including all relevant statutory obligations and monitor progress to completion.

Manage, monitor and report on planned maintenance and reactive works issued to both direct labour staff and multidisciplinary sub-contractors, in accordance with agreed targets.

Maintain and monitor the effectiveness of the direct labour engineering/maintenance staff and assist in completing their work in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Ensure that the staff or contractors under his/her control meet all legal, professional and University health and safety, and risk management requirements, and that these are enforced and maintained. Carry out risk assessments of activities as necessary

Assist the Campus Facilities Manager to manage and develop a team of staff to ensure that they are well informed, motivated, act professionally and trained to recognised standards.

Positively participate in Facilities Management activities.

Actively seek ways and methods to improve and enhance the customer experience.

Work to deadlines and project plans

Respond to enquiries in a timely and effective manner.

 Key Performance Indicator

  • Contribution to delivery of EFD Management strategic plan through effective management

and teamwork.

  • Production and delivery of work and projects to agreed timescales, quality and to plan.
  • Levels of customer satisfaction (measured by surveys, customer feedback, complaints)
  • Compliance with corporate standards.

Key Relationship (Internal & External)

EFD Colleagues, Faculty and Directorate Colleagues, Contracted service providers/consultants

  • Historic monuments and world heritage site, Students & Students’ Union, General Public, Vicitors


  • Competent in at least one trade discipline e.g. mechanical, electrical or plumbing etc.
  • IT literacy with a good working knowledge of records management, IT equipment and software.
  • A good understanding of H&S, including COSHH, L8 and Risk and Method statements Assessments etc.
  • Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of building services.
  • Proven experience of stock control and ordering procedures.
  • Significant experience in a supervisory position.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of building management systems and the interpretation of related data.
  • An in-depth understanding of the installation, Operation and maintenance of Mechanical and

Electrical building services including building fabric maintenance.


  • Microsoft Office Suite to advanced standard
  • Advanced level of knowledge regarding Health and Safety Legislation
  • Advanced level of understanding of Facilities Management function
  • Purchasing and Auditing
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills


GCSE A-C grade in English, Maths and ICT or equivalent

Approved apprenticeship and F Gas Trained

NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or other relevant building services discipline

A formal qualification in Legionella management

Qualified to Supervisory level in Management

First Aid and Manual Handling, Asbestos awareness or equivalent

IOSH Certificate in Managing Safely or equivalent
