An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Medical Lad apprentice to complete an 18 months apprenticeship programme. Duties include;

  • Assist and support registered Healthcare Scientists in providing a professional laboratory service.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective running of department and sections as appropriate.
  • Provides basic clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.

To succeed in this apprenticeship you will need to work independently and part of a team. You will work in a designated area of the department under the supervision of a section leader on samples and Specimens.  Replace stocks of consumables and reagents when required and inform the section leader if back up stocks are low. Provides and receives routine information orally to inform work colleagues or external contacts e.g. other departments, G.P.’s or visitors to the department.

You will be working mostly Monday – Friday; total hours per week will be 37.5 hours for 18 months some roles also have weekend work however you would be made aware of the hours and days required when given the job description for each role. The role is paying £6.50 per hour after successful completion of your probation will raise to £7.57 per hour.

On the programme you will  work towards achieving a Health care science (Level 2) Apprenticeship.  There is also a comprehensive workplace training programme to support you develop and extend your skills and compliment your on-the-job learning.
